Plant of the week.
Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum virginianum)

U.S. Native perennial plant that is very easy to grow and needs very little maintenance once established. It is not fussy about the soil type and will grow well in poor rocky soils. IN fact any soil type that is not waterlogged will make it happy but rich organic soils allow it to grow faster, larger and produce more flowers. The masses of flowers are arise in mid to later summer and last for about a month. The are beloved by butterflies and our wonderful small native bees. Needs little watering once established unless there is a prolonged drought. Hardy to zone 5 with some reports of zone 4. Deer and rabbits don't eat it.. Flowers first year from seed, but plants increase in size yearly.
