A really easy plant to grow, makes a good low border plant or annual ground cover. Once established it fairly drought tolerant but will not produce a lush crop of leaves if not watered. Its fairly deer proof due to the prickly/downy leaves. The sprawling habit and unusual yellow flowers make it an interesting plant although not particularly showy. Will flower until the first hard frost. The leaves are edible, so are the roots, and it's a good herbal plant. Its not quite a sow and forget it plant but its fairly close.

If you like the look of catnip and the pretty flowers but don't like the aroma then this plant is for you. It has the same appearance and very similar flowers which will bloom from early summer until the frost knocks it down for the winter. A tough little perennial that will flower from seed in the first year and comes back year after year. Needs little care and not as much water as most mints. It likes full sun but will deal with partial shade and is not fussy about the soil type provided it is well drained. Deer and Rabbit proof! Cats don't seem to like it much either. They ignore our plants but will totally destroy normal catnip. We don't recommend you grow this for your cat, they might not like it.

Many chefs prefer the taste and aroma of Italian parsley when cooking. It is said to have a stronger sweeter flavor than other varieties. If you need a ground cover plant for those shady areas self heal is the plant for you. This semi evergreen perennial likes shady areas and forms dense lush green mats only a few inches tall. It's easy to establish and does not need much aftercare and is fairly drought tolerant. It produces blue violet flowers in summer for about four weeks. It's pretty cold tolerant, does not need much water once established and deer don't seem to eat it.

Spearmint Mentha Spicata

Very aromatic perennial that makes a good ground cover plant. Needs little attention and grows on poor soil as long as it has sunshine. Strong interesting leaves and a wonderful scent. Mint has dozens of uses but it will spread if not watched so make sure you have room before you plant it. Deer don't eat it.

This is a truly delightful native annual wildflower that flowers in late fall when little else has any color. The massive of bright yellow flowers bring a spark of color to an otherwise dying garden landscape. For this reason alone it is worth adding to the garden flora. Prefers to have more moisture so is best of wetter areas in full sun or partial shade but needs no care once established. Will self seed in ideal conditions and can form large colonies. Deer may eat some but don't seem to bother it that much.

Grown mainly for it's foliage and wonderful scent Sweet Annie has thick woody stems and many branches of fine light to olive green foliage. Delightful perennial plant which once established needs little care or water. Either full sun or partial shade to flourish but will grow on almost any soil type. Will thrive in hot dry areas will no care. The bright yellow flowers begin in mid summer and continue right up until the frost. Planted in a group they will produce color for a lot of the season. It has a interesting strong aroma and deer really don't seem to like it.

Russian Tarragon is a tough hardy perennial plant that grows to about 3-4 feet in height. It takes very little care once established and can tolerate drought reasonably well. IT will produce much lusher foliage with some water but is not very particular about soil type and in fact does much better on poor soil than rich ones. Hardy to zone 4 (some say 3) it returns every year with foliage that increases in aroma as the year goes by. Deer and rabbits don't eat it, and insects don't really like it making it an excellent choice for around outdoor gathering areas. It prefers full sun, with some shade in hotter zone. The dense branching foliage makes a good annual hedge.

Tarragon - Mexican Tagetes lucida

A lovely cheerful very aromatic plant for hot sunny areas. Grown as a annual in zones 7 and above and a tender perennial zone 8-11. In most cases it produces a lowish growing shrub like herb about 12 ? high with bright yellow flowers from mid summer that will persist until the frost. Its fairly drought tolerant and the strong anise licorice aroma sends a wonderful scent across the garden. Use for low borders sunny pots and rockery areas. The strong flavor keeps the deer and rabbits away while giving bright color to the garden all summer long. Its also a great substitute for French tarragon and great in salads

This is a wonderful ground cover plant for those hot dry areas where little else is growing. Thrives on poor soil, needs very little water and is drought tolerant. Needs very little care once established. In late spring it produces a multitude of pink flowers the cover the whole plant turning the whole area into a carpet of pink. Deer and rabbits don?t eat it, and it?s also a really great kitchen herb, what more could you want from a plant.

A lovely little perennial plant hardy to zone 5. It likes poor soils that are well drained and full sunshine. It does not need much watering and can withstand some drought. Given this it is a pretty carefree plant that will bloom year after year with little care. It makes a great ground cover plant, or it can be used between stepping stone, in planters or on rockeries. Deer don't eat it.

Valerian Valerian officinalis

A tall perennial plant with masses of tiny highly perfumed flowers. Easy to grow and needs little maintenance once established. Prefers full sun and a richer soil and some water but can tolerate some drought will little trouble. Flower stalks will most likely need staking but they produce masses of flowers for long periods of time and are loved by butterflies and other beneficial insects. Great plant for areas that need height.

Vervain Verbena officinalis

Very delicate looking herb plant with long flower wands and tiny lavender flowers from early summer until fall. Will grow on fairly poor soil and does not need much attention once it's established, it can easily thrive on neglect for many years. The butterflies and bees love it and birds will eat the seeds. It's a perennial hardy to zone 4 and deer don't eat it.

Yarrow Achillea millefolium

A bright flowering tough perennial hardy to zone 2. It grows very well in hot dry areas and flowers for long periods. It can be stepped on mown and ignored and it will still thrive. Very drought tolerant and takes almost no care once established. Can be used as a ground cover in sunny dry areas then mown down once a year (in fall) to keep tidy. Deer usually don't eat it neither to rabbits. Will spread and can become invasive if not controlled but it's a small price to pay for this lovely hardy plant which can bring so many flowers to the garden for so long. Makes a great cut flower although some people don't like the scent.
