This is a large impressive aromatic biennial plant for shady moist locations. It will grow in full sun in zones higher than 6 but some shade from full day sun is desirable. Loves rich moist soil. If you like the look of catnip and the pretty flowers but don't like the aroma then this plant is for you. It has the same appearance and very similar flowers which will bloom from early summer until the frost knocks it down for the winter. A tough little perennial that will flower from seed in the first year and comes back year after year. Needs little care and not as much water as most mints. It likes full sun but will deal with partial shade and is not fussy about the soil type provided it is well drained. Deer and Rabbit proof! Cats don't seem to like it much either. They ignore our plants but will totally destroy normal catnip. We don't recommend you grow this for your cat, they might not like it.

Fairybells is perhaps the most delightful heavy shade native perennial available in the United States. The lovely nodding yellow flowers with bright green foliage will lighten any deep shady area. The plant likes rich organic material in moist soil but once established it needs little care or attention. Russian Tarragon is a tough hardy perennial plant that grows to about 3-4 feet in height. It takes very little care once established and can tolerate drought reasonably well. Hardy to zone 4 (some say 3) it returns every year with foliage that increases in aroma as the year goes by. Hardy to zone 4 but not recommended below zone 8 due to the heat. Not fussy about soil type as long as not waterlogged. Easy to grow with attractive mid green leaves in rosettes and showy spikes of purple flowers in summertime when little else will flower under trees. Will make a great summer ground cover in shady areas with little maintenance. Needs some water in dryer areas as little will reach under leaf canopy even if there is some rain. Wildlife may eat it but butterflies and beneficial insects love the flowers.

Deer usually don't eat it neither to rabbits. Will spread and can become invasive if not controlled but it's a small price to pay for this lovely hardy plant which can bring so many flowers to the garden for so long. Makes a great cut flower although some people don't like the scent.
